Campbells is pleased to announce that we have advised Bitstamp by Robinhood on its successful application for a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licence in the British Virgin Islands.
Bitstamp by Robinhood, a global cryptocurrency exchange, has secured regulatory approval to operate as a VASP in the BVI, expanding its regulatory and compliance footprint in a key international jurisdiction. The licensing of a globally recognised digital asset exchange further underscores the BVI’s position as a credible and well-regulated jurisdiction for virtual asset businesses seeking a robust, internationally aligned regulatory framework. Bitstamp by Robinhood is authorised to carry on virtual asset services including the exchange of virtual assets, the safekeeping and administration of virtual assets, and the transfer of virtual assets through its BVI-registered entity, Bitstamp Global Ltd.
The Campbells team, led by Guy Williamson and Richard Spencer, together with members of the firm’s wider FinTech team, provided comprehensive legal support throughout the licensing process. This included regulatory strategy, preparation and submission of the licence application, engagement with the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission, and advice on ongoing compliance obligations under the Virtual Assets Service Providers Act.
Guy Williamson, Partner in Campbells’ BVI FinTech team, commented, “We are delighted to have supported Bitstamp by Robinhood in achieving this important regulatory milestone. The BVI VASP regime represents a robust and internationally respected licensing framework for digital asset service providers, and we are pleased to see Bitstamp by Robinhood’s commitment to compliance and market integrity recognised by the BVI regulator.”
