Campbells’ Partner, Ross McDonough, Appointed Queen’s Counsel

Campbells is pleased to announce that Ross McDonough, Senior Partner, Managing Partner Hong Kong has been appointed Queen’s Counsel and his appointment will be recognised in a formal ceremony in the Cayman Islands Grand Court later this month.

The award of Queen’s Counsel is made for excellence in advocacy and, in the Cayman Islands, is made on the recommendation of the Judges of the Grand Court to the Governor of the Cayman Islands. That recommendation is then considered by the Governor who, in turn, must obtain approval of the recommendation from the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. Once approved at this level, the Governor makes the appointment on behalf of the Queen.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. McDonough said, “It is an honour to be appointed Queen’s Counsel and to be counted amongst such a distinguished and select group of attorneys in the Cayman Islands.”  He adds, “I am grateful to my clients who have entrusted me to be their advocate in the many interesting and challenging cases which I have had the privilege to argue.

Prior to his move to Hong Kong, Ross served for many years as Managing Partner and Head of Litigation in Campbells’ Cayman office. Having practiced continuously with Campbells since 1994, Ross is one of the most experienced litigators at the Cayman bar and has appeared in more than 45 reported cases in the Grand Court, the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council.  Ross was admitted in the British Virgin Islands in 2009 and specialises in insolvency, restructuring and commercial litigation, with particular expertise in investment fund disputes.

We are delighted that Ross has been granted this prestigious honour,” said John Wolf, Managing Partner, Cayman. “Ross has played an integral part in the firm’s success and we offer our congratulations on his well-deserved appointment.  He is an outstanding attorney and advocate, whose experience and expertise has contributed greatly to the strong reputation of our firm’s litigation department.
